Survival Equipment, Provisions and Techniques
The primary source of comfort for the survivalist is knowing that you have what you need. This includes mindset and fitness, but of course, provisions, knowhow and equipment as well.
There are five major component materials for survival: air, shelter, water, food, and companionship or at least something to allow you temporarily to occupy your mind with something other than your troubles.
Note the order of the components. This is the order in which they become critical in surviving outdoors, especially in great heat or cold.
This is the basis of the “Rule of Threes”: Three minutes without air; three hours without shelter; three days without water (when not working up or baking up a huge sweat); three weeks without food, and three months... well, “love.” The love might be satisfaction or hope.
Knowhow is the most important!
Don’t ever confuse gear for knowhow, or think that a “thing” will save your life. If you used it, you saved your own life. It may have been convenient, but things don’t empower us; our minds do.
As far as I am concerned, there are three elements, as it were, in survival: conditions (assessment), knowhow and gear. Note the disproportionate role your brain plays; it is your most valuable tool. At the end of the day, it may really be the only valuable tool. It is absolutely imperative that you keep it functioning. Read the fitness and mindset sections and take care of your mind!
So many things to know, so little time!
I debated whether to include this section, since many techniques are covered so well in so many places. But it just wouldn’t be a survival site if I didn’t. Who knows? Perhaps the way I phrase something will provide that special spark...
So, you’ll find articles on just about anything relating to survival, if I’ve had a chance to review it. This is going to be a big, big section, but I promise to try to keep it organized and navigable.
Here’s a solution...
